The KK Food Reviews team just love checking out unknown eateries around Kota Kinabalu. To me, I'm just not that into visiting an eatery where I have to stand and wait for an empty seat, then wait even longer for my food to arrive!

We do love going to lesser known eateries though, where there are less people around. No problem in finding seats, and food arrive in less than 1/2 hour! This way, we get to talk to the owner of the place (if they're around, that is), and get better service!

Uncle Lee Fish House

So anyway, I'm sure some of you have heard of Uncle Lee Fish House, located somewhere at Jalan Bundusan. Let me begin by saying that it's not a fancy place at all, but the owner sure knows his food! And he recommended us these 2 dishes:

Mutton Curry

Mutton Curry. I absolutely love this dish ever since the beginning of time (LOL), but have only ordered it at curry house before. But the mutton curry here is delicious! The gravy is rich in spices taste, and the mutton is tender! There's not much of the 'mutton' smell, though; I'd personally prefer if there were, but I know a lot of people couldn't take it.

We also had this: Fish Lips with Spicy Black Bean Sauce, another of Uncle Lee's signature dish. Delicious. Be prepared to order a second bowl of rice!

We didn't ask the price for each dish, but if I'm not mistaken, the overall price was around RM30, inclusive of 4 glasses of cold Chinese Tea, 3 bowls of rice.

The KK Food Reviews crew attended the The Roof Signature Dishes and Set Lunch Launching yesterday at Imperial International Hotel. We arrived quite late, and by the time we arrived, most of the others had already left.

But it was no biggie. We said our hellos to a few people still sitting, sat down, and ordered our lunch.

I was torn in ordering which of these 3 dishes: the Nasi Percik Ayam Bersantan, the Oxtail Assam Pedas, and the Kota Belud Nasi Goreng. But in the end, I chose the latter, simply because I have already tried the other 2 dishes, and I wanted to see how the fried rice taste like.

Nasi Goreng Kota Belud

Kota Belud Nasi Goreng, served with fried chicken, salted fish, chili padi, red onion, fresh long bean, papadum, and pickle vegetable on the side. [Price: RM15 nett]

First of all, I like the fact that the fried rice was served on banana blossom (or banana heart as some of you calls it), and that the side dishes were placed as they are; it allows me to put as much or as little as I want onto the fried rice to my liking. Furthermore, to me, it doesn't look that big of a portion, but wow, was I stuffed by the time I was done! But I mean that in a good way, actually!

WC ordered the Oxtail Assam Pedas, which I had already reviewed on the previous post. So I won't go into detail on that one.

When we were done, we left the restaurant feeling full and satisfied.

Pursuing Food Photography

One of my ultimate favourite food has got to be the Oxtail Assam Pedas! And what do ya know.. I was at a food photoshoot recently, and one of the dishes turned out to be this Oxtail Assam Pedas! *drool*

And did you know that one of the signature dishes at The Roof Restaurant is this Oxtail Assam Pedas? All the price of RM20 Nett!

I personally have tried it before, and yes, I agree, it's yummy! Tender, too! Sauce is not too spicy, too sour, nor too oily; it's just nice! If you're a fan of this dish, then I'd suggest you try it out as well!

This year, for the first time ever, my fiance WC and I had our first candlelight dinner. 'Twas very memorable: beautiful setting, nice food, friendly staff, the only thing missing was wine (we had to settle for sparkling juice). But let's not get into personal stuff on this blog and go on with talking about the food, shall we?

Prawn Salad

This is the Warm Grilled Garlic Prawn with Rocket Salad and Balsamic Vinegar Dressing. Both WC and I liked it; the prawn were very soft and easy to eat. I just wished there were more dressing on the salad but hey, that's just me.

Double Essence of Chicken with Bread

For the soup, we had Double Boiled Essence of Chicken with Wanton Dumpling In Coconut. Also served at the same time were some breadsticks and buns, with butter on the side. I loved the wanton, the soup, not so much. This is the only thing I didn't really like out of the whole dinner.

Beef Tenderloin

WC's main course, the Grilled Medallion of Beef Tenderloin served with Sweet Potato Timbale, accompanied with Sauteed Spinach, Glazed Carrots and Cream Herb Gravy. The beef was very rare but VERY red and tender inside! I LOVED it!

Stuffed Chicken

This is my main course, the Oven Roasted Stuffed Chicken Roulade in Green Apple-Pumpkin Puree, Served with Sabah Vegetable and Red Pepper Cream Sauce. I thought mine was delicious, although I had to ask for more sauce for mine as it weren't enough.

Chocolate Truffle

And for dessert, we both had the Chocolate Truffle served with Strawberry Coulis, together with Chocolate Pralines on the side. I loved this dessert, and I'm sure those chocolate lovers would think the same! It's sweet and yet tastes light enough to eat 'til it's gone!

[Coffee or Tea was also served during dessert time]

Chocolate Truffle 2

WC's dessert, the same but with different design

Overall, this Valentine Set Dinner cost us RM75 nett for 2 pax (excluding the sparkling juice). VERY affordable if you ask me, considering the very nice ambience, excellent service of staff, and good food!

I'll definitely consider coming here again for my next Valentine dinner.

Since I love read bean, its no wonder that I fell in love with this drink as well! No joke! I am not into very sweet things, and I find that the sweetness of the drink is just nice; not too sweet and not too bland. That's just my opinion! ;)

The Mandarin Orange Cheese Cake is seriously VERY RICH in taste. I personally would doubt that ladies can finish a slice of it, but don't get me wrong! Surprisingly, the orange taste goes well with the cheesecake! It's actually quite delicious! You guys try it out and let me know what you think of it, yea?

There were other dishes for us bloggers to try out as well, though, silly me.. I forgot to take the names of the exact dishes! I gotta say, I loved the salad and the chicken chipotle sandwich, though! Yummy!

FYI, the Read Bean Ice Blended is available until around mid March this year, and if I'm not mistaken, the same goes to the cake. (Correct me if I'm wrong though anyone!)
